mmReceiving the Tami Ginsberg Celebration of Service Award was Lee McTaggart, who has served as the northeast director for UCC for several years and is an at-large director this year. She has been a member of the Sun Valley Chamber of Commerce for more than 10 years.
mmAlong with serving as president, she has been on every chamber committee during the past decade. She chaired the member ship committee for six years.
mmThe Individual of the Year Award went to Lulu Mercado, president, owner and broker of Real Merc Investments Co., a real estate and mortgage company, and a member of the San Fernando Valley Filipino American Chamber.
mmShe is active with her church, serving as president, treasurer and adviser over the years. She has also helped in the parish school, serving as a volunteer teacher in English, speech, debate and catechism.
mmMichael Moore, commanding officer of the Valley bureau of the Los Angeles Police Department, received the Public Safety Official Award.
mmA 25-year veteran of the LAPD, Moore has held the ranks of police officer, detective, sergeant and lieutenant in various patrol, investigative and administrative assignments throughout the city. He was named the commanding officer of the Valley Bureau on July 3, 2005.

mmThe company created the chamber’s new logo and worked on its business directory and community guide. Diane Deats has led the chamber’s marketing and public relations committee in the development of a new website and marketing brochure and the revival of the chamber newsletter.
mmGelb Enterprises, named the top medium-size business by UCC, owns 40 properties, totaling about 1 million square feet of retail, office and industrial space. A typical Gelb property is a 35,000-square-foot, three-story facility.
mm“We have small shopping centers too,” said Rickey Gelb, managing general partner of the company, which was founded in 1971.
mmGelb’s more high-profile tenants include the state of California, Los Angeles County, the cities of Los Angeles and Long Beach, Taco Bell and Chuck E. Cheese restaurants.
mmTaking the Large Business of the Year Award was Northeast Valley Health Corp., a federally funded nonprofit that operates 10 primary care health centers.

The United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley held its 32nd annual Celebrating Business Recognition Dinner earlier this month at the Hilton Woodland Hills.
mmAt the event, UCC honored four local businesses and three individuals.
mmSharing Small Business of the Year honors were Mooney Industries Precision Machining Inc. and Deats Design.
mmMooney Industries, a family owned and operated small business, was started in 1972 in Van Nuys and moved to Canoga Park in 1979.
mmInitially, its contracts involved making defense, radar and communication parts. Over the years, the company has transitioned into the development and production of components for the space shuttle main engine, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Mars Rover and 40 items on the International Space Station.
mmMooney Industries has earned honors including Vendor of the Quarter from Rocketdyne, Vendor of the Year from ITT Gilfillan and the Gold Standing Award from Boeing.
mmOwners Joyce and Al Mooney are members of the Canoga Park/West Hills Chamber of Commerce.
mmDeats Design, a graphic arts studio in Woodland Hills, has been providing creative services since 1980.
mmOwned and managed by Diane and Stewart Deats, the company creates designs for book covers, business cards, advertising, brochures and web sites.
mmSince the merger of the Woodland Hills and Tarzana chambers of commerce last January, Deats Design has worked extensively with the combined chamber.mm
